The Toyota RAV4 is an ideal compact crossover SUV for city driving or more adventurous pursuits.
Many consider this car to be the first compact SUV as it was launched almost thirty years ago in 1994. The thinking behind the RAV4 was to give customers the advantages of an SUV such as more cargo space, higher visibility, and the option of full-time four-wheel drive coupled with the advangages of a regular compact car, namely fuel economy and maneuverability - the premise behind all crossover SUVs today.
There are currently five models available in the range with a choice of automatic or CVT drivetrains. The GX-R models and the top of the range VX are available in various configurations and now also as a hybrid.
In 2019, the RAV4 held the honour of being the best-selling SUV in the world. It has sold over ten million units worldwide! Oh, and if you’ve always wondered but never asked, RAV4 is an abbreviation for "Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive”. (Note that not all models feature four-wheel drive.)
