The Toyota Etios is a subcompact car available as either a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback. Since its launch in 2012, the Toyota Etios has been a big seller for the marque, selling around 1000 brand new units per month. The “Etios" name is borrowed from the Greek word "ethos", meaning spirit, character and ideas. The Etios was targeted toward developing nations and has sold incredibly well here in South Africa.
The mechanicals of the Etios is centred around a four-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 66kW and torque of 132Nm. Coupled with the car's low curb weight, the performance and fuel consumption (a claimed 6.0l/100km for the combined cycle) are superb.
In 2017 Toyota replaced the mid-grade Xs models with a Sprint derivative (in hatch and sedan forms) adding sportiness to the little car. The 14-inch steel rims with hubcaps were upgraded to 15-inch alloy rims, and a new grille with chrome details and black inserts differentiated it from Xi models. Its sporty front air dam with integrated fog lights enhances the new look.
