In South Africa, D Max pick-ups were sold as the Isuzu KB bakkie; The KB has been one of SA's top-selling bakkies over the years and is known as a tough and sturdy pick-up. Isuzu has produced almost 25-million diesel engines in over 100 countries, a testament to the quality of the vehicle. The company prides itself on delivering reliability and value.

In the 1980s, Isuzu was the global industry leader in the field of direct-injection diesel engines for light trucks.
