More about the Volkswagen Amarok

The Volkswagen Amarok is a bakkie produced by VW Commercial Vehicles since 2010. The bakkie is what's known as a body-on-frame truck and features front double-wishbone suspension and rear leaf springs. The Amarok is available in single and double cab versions, with a choice of rear-wheel drive or VW's 4motion four-wheel drive. Turbocharged petrol or TDI (turbocharged direct injection) diesel engines power this great-looking bakkie.

The name Amarok comes from a wolf god in Inuit mythology and is also associated with the phrase "he loves stones" in Romanic languages - hinting at the vehicle's all-terrain performance.

Following the bakkie's 2010 launch, the Amarok was a key support vehicle in the 2010 Dakar Rally where 45 units were used. The Amarok is produced in the VW Group plant in Argentina for many markets, including ours.

In 2017, Volkswagen announced a facelifted Amarok range with a new engine replacing the earlier models' 2.0L TDI engine. The Amarok is now fitted with a version of VW's 3.0L TDI V6 - available as 121 kW, 150 kW and 167 kW, with the most powerful version boasting a torque output of 550 N·m.
